Lyceo Oefenen is a digital learning platform brimming with practice materials. Tailored for students across VMBO-TL, HAVO, and VWO levels, Lyceo Oefenen offers a rich array of study resources, including explanatory videos and practice assignments.

When I joined Lyceo, Lyceo Oefenen was already established but only accessible through the desktop in the browser. Recognizing the potential for growth and accessibility, the desire was there to breathe new life into the platform and to expand its reach by launching it on the App Store and Google Play. My objective was to design a conceptual north-star future vision of how Lyceo Oefenen could look and function in the future.

The existing design suffered from being text-heavy and heavily reliant on toggles. This made it challenging for users to quickly scan content, switch between lessons or subjects seamlessly, and didn’t translate well to mobile devices.

In the redesign, my primary objective was to address these issues. I accomplished this by reducing the amount of text, introducing a layered navigation system, and organising content based on the most recently used items.

I also spruced up the design with more visuals. This not only made it easier for users to recognise subjects, but also gave the product a spark of charm and playfulness that I felt it was lacking before.

To present the design to leadership, I created a prototype and gave a live demo. Feedback was very positive: ‘when can we put it live?’.

Unfortunately, I could not continue working on the project as I pursued a new challenge shortly thereafter. After my departure, the new designer continued working on my concept, which is currently live in the App Store and Google Play.
